Poll panel reviews preparedness for KDMC elections

State Election Commissioner J S Saharia today reviewed the preparations for the November 1 election to the Kalyan-Dombivili Municipal Corporation (KDMC).

He directed the officials to make necessary arrangements to ensure free, fair and transparent polls, and also works towards increasing the voting percentage.

Saharia, during his visit to Kalyan, met senior officials and expressed satisfaction over the measures taken for the polls and the counting of votes on November 2.

Municipal Commissioner and election in-charge E Ravendiran made a presentation to Saharia on poll preparedness at a meeting.

Also present for the meeting were Additional Home Secretary (Home) K P Bakshi, Thane Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, Collector Ashwini Joshi and senior officials connected with the election work.
 

Addressing the meeting, Saharia said in the last two elections the percentage of voting had been 47 and 46 per cent only and this time every measure should be taken to ensure the turnout figure goes up to at least 55 per cent.
