A 19-year-old polytechnic student has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl at Periya Agraharam area in the city.
Police said the sixth standard girl, staying with her grandmother, had gone to her relative's house yesterday to attend a festival.
The boy, who was their neighbour, took her to an isolated spot nearby on his bike on the pretext of giving her a cold drink and biscuits and raped her.
The girl made her way back and narrated her plight to her relatives, who immediately informed police. The boy was arrested late last night.
The girl has been hospitalised, police said.
