Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir elected to bat after winning the toss against Mumbai Indians as the visiting team captain Ricky Ponting decided to drop himself from the playing XI.
While Mitchell Johnson comes in place of Ponting, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was inducted in place of Jaspreet Bumrah. Munaf Patel was also dropped from the side to accomodate Pragyan Ojha. In the KKR side, Iqbal Abdulla came in place of Laxmi Ratan Shukla.
