Power supply disconnected to 9 dyeing factories

Electricity supply has been disconnected to nine textile dyeing and printing factories here for alleged violation of pollution norms.
Acting on a complaint by residents and farmers of Vendipalayam Naripallam, Rasampalayam, Karuvalvalasu and Municipal colony areas, the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board officials conducted an inspection yesterday and found the factories were discharging effluents into water sources, TNPCB District Engineer Gopalakrishnan said.
Following this, TNPCB officials recommended disconnection of Electricity to the units, he said.
So far this month, action had been taken against 24 dyeing and textile units, he added.
