The Delhi government will consider the cases of acid attacks which had occured before the advent of its 2015 scheme to compensate the victims, Delhi High Court was informed today.

The submission was made before Justice Vibhu Bakhru by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's lawyer who said it was willing to consider the older cases under the new Delhi Victim Compensation Scheme of 2015, even where the compensation has been paid under the earlier scheme.

Under the new scheme, the interim compensation for acid attack survivors has been enhanced from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 7 lakh and their further treatment, including surgeries, is free of cost.

The submission by the Delhi government before the court came during the hearing of several petitions by acid attack survivors who have sought enhancement of compensation as well as challenging the cap of Rs 3 lakh under the earlier scheme.
