President Pranab Mukherjee today condoled the death of eminent painter Prokash Karmakar and said it leaves a void in the world of art and creativity.
In his condolence message, he said, "Prokash Karmakar was an eminent artist and a role model for modern and contemporary Indian painters.
"His singular contribution to Indian arts was recognised through a number of awards including Lalit Kala Akademi National Award."

Karmakar died yesterday in Kolkata at the age of 81 following age-related illness.
Influenced by the works of Picasso and the classic impressionists, he had won many prestigious awards including Lalit Kala Akademi National Award in 1968.
Mukherjee said Karmakar will be a source of inspiration for all those interested in art and culture and his death leaves a void in the world of art and creativity.
