President to attend National Voters Day event tomorrow

President Pranab Mukherjee will attend the National Voters' Day celebrations tomorrow in the capital.

"The National Voters' Day is celebrated by Election Commission of India every year as a measure to enhance participation of citizens, especially the youth, in the democratic electoral process.

"The Commission's objective is to make Universal Adult Franchise a complete reality and thereby enhance the quality of Indian democracy. As such, January 25, 2011 was celebrated as the first National Voters' Day," a statement from the Rashtrapati Bhavan said.
