The prices of carrot and beetroot will show an increasing trend during May-June and the expected average farm gate price would be Rs 15-20 per kg for carrot and Rs 12-15 per kg for beetroot in Mettupalayam Vegetable Commission Market.
Considering this, farmers are advised to take up sowing of carrot and beetroot in March-April, according to an analysis by Agro Marketing Intelligence and Busienss Promotion Centre in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.
Carrot is mainly grown in Nilgiris, Dindigul districts while beetroot in Nilgiris district and in certain pockets of Tirupur and Theni districts as plain crop.
Currently market is experiencing more inflow from within the State and outside especially Hassan district in Karnataka.
