Some private bus operators today tried to attack pro-Andhra Pradesh activists staging a protest against them in connection with the 2013 Palem bus accident that killed 45 people.

The protesters comprising leaders and activists of various joint action committees for unified state were holding a dharna at Rama Talkies here when the bus operators entered into a heated argument with them and tried to rough up some of them, police said.

The protesters raised slogans demanding seizure of all private buses plying on roads following the mishap.

Few leaders of the JACs sustained injuries in pandemonium that followed.

The JAC members also burnt effigy of Transport Minister Botcha Satyanarayana alleging his "failure" in announcing adequate compensation to kin of the bus accident.

A private Volvo bus on the way from Bangalore to Hyderabad had caught fire after hitting a culvert while overtaking a car, killing 45 people and injuring another 7 on October 30 last year.
