Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has ordered a probe into the deaths of five girl students in stampede at a government school in 2009.

The Deputy Chief Minister has also given orders to appoint a new investigation officer to probe the matter from the beginning.

"It was a very unfortunate incident. Government will take a strict action against those who are found guilty," Sisodia said in a statement.

According to a senior official, on September 10, 2009, a stampede at government senior secondary school in northeast Delhi's Khajuri Khas area had left five girls dead and 35 students injured after someone allegedly spread rumours of current in water gathered by incessant rains.

The official said that since 2009, probe was stalled due to which the accused have been moving freely.
