Blockades demanding justice in the Kathua and Unnao rape cases led to severe disruption of train services of the South-Eastern Railway today, affecting thousands of passengers.

The agitations were held in two phases at Chengail and Uluberia stations in the Howrah-Kharagpur section, leading to cancellation of 28 pairs of suburban trains, an SER spokesman said.

Altogether 19 mail/express trains were detained en route, he said.

Three other suburban trains were short-terminated and five express trains had to be rescheduled, owing to the agitation, the spokesman said.

A group of people resorted to the blockade at Chengail station in Howrah-Kharagpur section from 7.30 am to 11.48 am, he said.

Some people also demonstrated at Uluberia station, which is two stations ahead of Chengail, from 2.40 pm to 4.00 pm, he added.
