Public markets to have free weighing machines for consumers

Soon consumers will be able to cross-check the weight of their purchases in public markets to protect themselves from weighing scale related malpractises.

"We are planning to install weighing machines in KMC markets shortly so that consumers' interest is protected from rampant malpractices," State consumers affairs minister Sadhan Pande said.

Intially, 50 or so weighing machines would be installed which were likey to be funded from either consumer welfare fund or from MPLAD funds, joint controller of legal metrology Sajalkanti Jana told PTI.

He said people could access them free of cost.

Meanwhile, Pande has sought more funds for his department to promote consumer protection activities.
