Puducherry chief minister V Narayanasamy turned 71 today.
His ministerial colleagues, legislators and leaders of different wings of the ruling Congress offered prayers at the Manakula Vinayakar temple on the occasion.
Special prayers were held at churches and mosques also, party sources said.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi greeted the chief minister over phone, they said.
Former chief minister and senior Congress leader M D R Ramachandran cut a cake weighing 71 kgs at the birthday celebrations held at the party office.

Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi had met Narayanasamy at his residence yesterday on the birthday eve and greeted him.
Bedi and the Congress government have been at loggerheads on various issues.
