The Punjab Congress today favoured free trade between India and Pakistan through land route as it hailed the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif.

In a statement here, Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa said "better relations with Pakistan has raised hopes in this border state (Punjab)".

Calling for free trade between India and Pakistan via land route, he said the move would give much-needed boost to the economy of the state.

Bajwa said this would also pave the way for direct access to Central Asian markets as the state Congress hailed the meeting between the two leaders.
