Punjab govt announces free cycles to wards of labourers

Punjab Government today launched a scheme to provide free bicycles to the children of construction workers in the state.

Children of all those labourers who are registered with the Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board would be eligible to avail this benefit, a statement said.

The scheme covers only the registered labourers' children, studying from class 9th to 12th, who have also been awarded scholarships from the Board. It is a onetime benefit, it said.

To avail the benefit of the scheme, a worker must be registered with the Board for a minimum duration of one year and has been regularly paying the membership fees, it said.
