Punjab team in Telangana to study farm loan waiver scheme

A team of officials from Punjab today visited Hyderabad to study the farm loan waiver scheme implemented in Telangana.

The Punjab delegation comprised state agriculture commissioner Balwinder Singh Sidhu, senior official D P Reddy and some officials from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, a Telangana government release said.

The delegation met Telangana agriculture secretary C Parthasarathi and other officials of the state government and also banks, it said.

Parthasarathi told the delegation that loans to the tune of Rs 17,000 crore were waived in Telangana since 2014.

Noting that the experiences of Telangana would help Punjab, the visiting officials were quoted as saying that their meeting here gave them confidence that they can implement loan waiver in their state, it said.
