The Punjab government has unveiled a dedicated plan that seeks to harness the eco-tourism potential of the state.

Launched in April this year, the plan is likely to be completed by mid-2016, an official spokesperson said.

State Forest and Wild Life Department is the nodal agency for implementation of the plan, which also emphasises on creating awareness about ecology, and diversification of tourism activities with the help of local communities.

The spokesperson said sites to be brought under eco-tourism zones have been identified and the process for development of necessary infrastructure has been initiated.

He said the government is developing Keshopur wetland, known for attracting migratory birds from Siberia and central Asia, as an eco-tourism destination.

Other unexplored potential tourism areas will also be developed to promote eco-tourism.
