Praising Punjabi community's contribution in making Haryana one of the top states in the country, BJP MP from Karnal Ashwani Chopra today called upon Punjabis to unite with Jats to make a "solid political base" in the state.

Addressing a meeting organised by Panchanad Samarik Samiti to remember Punjabis killed during the partition in 1947, Chopra said he along with late Om Prakash Jindal had earlier also tried to bring both the communities politically together but they could not succeed.

Praising the Punjabi community, Chopra, also the chairman of all India Panchanad Samarik Samiti, said they had never asked for any reservation despite the fact that they lost everything during the partition.

He said if Punjabi community will remain united would ensure that five MPs and 50 MLAs from the community are elected in the next elections.
