The Communist Party of India (CPI) today expressed grief over the massive loss of life in Nepal due to earthquake and assured full help to affected people in the disaster-torn country.

In his letter to KP Oli, chairman of Communist Party of Nepal (UML), CPI General Secretary S Sudhakar Reddy said the Indian Left outfit has already instructed its units to collect relief materials.

"The National Council of CPI sends its heartfelt condolences to families of all those killed in Nepal's worst tragedy in the last 81 years. Though the final count of those killed and affected in the Himalayan tragedy is yet to come, the United Nations assessment says that about 66 lakh families have been affected in Nepal alone. Already it is being said that five thousand people have lost their lives.

"We wish to convey through you to the people of Nepal that at this moment of great tragedy our party is with the affected families and will do everything possible to support the people of Nepal. We have already instructed our units all over the country to actively participate in the collections of relief materials," Reddy said in the letter.

He added the CPI will appreciate suggestions from the CPN (UML) in this regard.

The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) is one of the largest communist parties in Nepal.
