Ramco may set up cement plant in AP

Ramco is likely set up a cement plant in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh with an investment of Rs 1,500 crore, according to state government.

The company is willing to enhance its investment up to Rs 3,000 crore for fully expanding the plant.

"Representatives of the company met Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here today and discussed the proposal," a release from the Advisor (Communications) to the Government of Andhra Pradesh said.

Ramco Vice-Chairman P R Venkatarama Raja asked the chief minister to get a railway line established to take the produce to other areas, it said.
 

"The state government will request Centre for establishing the railway line for the benefit of different cement industries," the release quoted the chief minister as saying.

According to the release, Chandrababu has directed the officials to acquire necessary land for the purpose and hoped that local residents will get employment opportunities with the establishment of the cement plant.

The company officials said that the industry being constructed by them in Visakhapatnam is nearing completion, the release added.
