Rape accused under-trial attempts suicide, critical

A 20-year-old rape accused attempted suicide in the district session court premises today.

Mukesh Tanwar, who has been charged with rape, attempted suicide with a long piece of cloth in the barracks toilet for prisoners in the district session court, where he was brought for appearance, around 2 pm, Station House Officer (SHO), Kotwali police station, Sunil Kumar said.

Tanwar was rescued by other barrack inmates and was rushed to a hospital immediately where his condition is stated to be critical, the officer said.

A case under relevant sections would be lodged against Tanwar, who has been lodged in Jhalawar jail since March, he said.
