Renowned architect dead

Renowned town planner and

architect Prof Monideep Chatterjee died at a city hospital today, a family member said.

Chatterjee (79) was in critical condition after tripping at his home about a month back and was under treatment at a private hospital ever since. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.

A former professor of Jadavpur University, Chatterjee had vast experience in metropolitan and city planning.

In 1966 he had participated in the planning process under the Calcutta Metropolitan Planning Organisation.

In 1976, he had taken a leading role in designing the East Calcutta Township Project, the only township project supported by the World Bank in Kolkata.
