Rhino killed

A rhino was killed and its

horn taken away in the Kaziranga National Park today.

The adult female rhino was killed by poachers in the wee hours in Tinikati forest camp area under Burapahar range of the World Heritage Site, Divisional Forest officer of the National Park Rohini Ballav Saikia said.

The forest personnel had heard sound of gun shots and on searching the area found the carcass of the rhino with AK-47 and INSAS rifle bullet wounds, Saikia said.

Forest officials recovered 14 rounds of fired cartridges of both the rifles from the spot, the DFO said.
