Rigorous imprisonment for rape

A Fast Track Women's Court in the district today sentenced a 41-year-old man to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2012.

According to the prosecution, Ramar had entered house of the 14-year-old girl, who was sick, on September 15, 2012 at Sivakasi when she was alone in the house and raped her.

Judge N Rajalakshmi sentenced him to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 for raping the girl.

The judge also awarded another 10 years rigorous imprisonment to him under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act-2012 and slapped a fine of Rs 15,000.
 

Both the sentences would run concurrently.

The fine amount should be paid to the girl, the judge said.
