Robbers throw chili powder, rob onion trader of Rs 9 lakh

An onion trader was tody robbed of Rs 9 lakh cash he was carrying by unidentified persons in Lasalgaon town in Nashik district of Maharashtra, police said.

The incident occurred this afternoon when the victim, identified as Rahul Sanap, was walking towards his car with a bag containing the cash, an official said.

Lasalgaon is the Asia's largest market for onions.

Sanap had withdrawn the money from a local bank for its distribution to farmers in Lasalgaon taluka, he said, adding, "Some unidentified persons, apparently lying in wait, threw chili powder in the eyes of Sanap and snatched the bag before fleeing".
