The tourism department would sanction Rs 13 crore to develop five beaches in Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka Tourism Minister R V Deshpande said today.

Ullal, Suratkal, Panambur, Tannirbavi and Mulky beaches are to be developed, he said after flagging-off off a KSTDC city tour bus from Pilikula Nisargadhama at Moodushedde near here.

He said funds would not be a problem for tourism development schemes.

The city tour bus has been introduced on a pilot basis and more buses would be sanctioned in future, he said.

The support from local people was essential for tourism development as it would generate more employment and income for them. The department had appointed 175 home guards to provide security to tourists, the minister said.

Sports minister Abhayachandra Jain, Nalin Kumar Kateel MP, Mohiuddin Bava MLA and deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim were present at the function.
