The excise department has seized 60,000 kg of illegal jaggery, meant for making hooch, valued at Rs 18 lakh from Dhula Simla in Howrah district, an excise department official said.
Personnel of Excise Uluberia range office raided various hooch making units in Dhula Simla area last night and seized the jaggery valued at Rs 18 lakh, Deputy Excise Collector Syed Malekuz Zaman said.
However, nobody was arrested.
The jaggery was then destroyed by the excise department team which also sealed three godowns, he said.
