Two persons were taken into custody today for interrogation in connection with the recent theft of red sanders worth Rs four crore stocked in the Inland Container Depot at Irugur in the city.

The red sanders, weighing nine tonnes, were seized by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence from a container at Dharapuram and handed over to ICD for safe custody, police said.

A seven-member gang allegedly entered the depot late on Thursday night, attacked and tied two security guards on duty and locked them in a room before taking away the sanders in a lorry.

The guards on morning duty next day found their colleagues tied up and immediately informed the godown supervisor who lodged a complaint with Singanallur police who registered the case yesterday.

As part of investigation, police took into custody two persons for questioning and are on the look out for the gang, sources said.
