In a major haul, Narcotics Control Bureau officials today seized heroin and methamphetamine worth Rs five crore allegedly being smuggled to Kuwait and arrested four persons, including a passenger, at the airport here, busting an international drug syndicate.

Acting on a tip off, NCB officials kept a watch and intercepted Rajendran Sheshathri bound for Kuwait at the Airport. They found 1.1 kg of heroin and 1.02 kg of methamphetamine, a stimulant, in his baggage, NCB Zonal Director Prem Anand Sinha said in a statement here.

"This is a major breakthrough in busting a Kuwait-based international drug syndicate operating from Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Further investigation to find the source of drug is on", he said.

Sheshathri hails from Kumbakonam and three of his accomplices -- Mohammed Ibrahim, Mohamed Rabeek and Vijayakumar, all from Tamil Nadu, waiting outside the airport -- were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), he said.

"They confessed to getting the drugs from a person in Kerala and confirmed that the package was being sent to Kuwait. Total worth of drugs seized is approximately Rs five crore in international market", he said.
