With a temporary structure that was removed after the "hasty" inauguration of the erstwhile New Assembly-Secretariat Complex here during the DMK regime, Tamil Nadu government today announced allocating over Rs six crore to complete the dome.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa sanctioned Rs 6.86 crore towards completion of the dome, which would be designed with a view to utilise maximum natural light, an official release here said.

It said the inauguration of the Assembly-Secretariat Complex, a pet initiative of then Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, was done in a "hasty" manner as many works were not completed.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi had participated in the inaugural function in 2010.

The release said a temporary structure resembling a dome was constructed then at a cost of Rs three crore, which was later removed.

Soon after coming to power in the 2011 general elections, Jayalalithaa had announced converting the mega budget project into a multi-speciality hospital, works for which are already underway.
