Rupee down 40 paise against dollar

The rupee fell by 40 paise to 62.91 against the dollar in early trade today, ahead of the June quarter current account deficit data, amid month-end demand for the American currency from oil importers.
Besides, euro's weakness against the US dollar overseas and a lower opening in the domestic equity market also put pressure on the local currency, forex dealers said.
Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex fell by 142.04 points, or 0.72 per cent, to 19,585.23.
It had dropped from a one-week high by falling 44 paise to close at 62.51 against the dollar in the previous session.
