The spokesman at Egypt's Foreign Ministry says Russia's foreign and defence ministers are visiting Egypt next week to discuss what Russia's official news agency says could be an arms deal.
Badr AbdelAtty said today that the ministers will visit Egypt on November 13 for a two-day trip aimed at discussing bilateral relations. Yesterday, state RIA Novosti news agency said that the delegation will negotiate possible weapons deals.
The visit comes less than a month after the United States decided to withhold hundreds of millions of dollars in military aid to Egypt, one of the strongest US allies in the Mideast. The US decision came over the popularly backed July 3 military coup toppled President Mohammed Morsi.
