A criminal, who was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, was today arrested in connection with a dacoity at a leading showroom in Sahranpur, police said.

"Mobin alias Kala, who carries a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, was arrested from Paper Mill road and fire arms were recovered from his possession," IG (Public Grievances) A Mutha Jain told reporters here.

Seven dacoits in police uniform had allegedly looted gold jewellery worth Rs 9 crore from a leading showroom in Saharanpur on February 15.

Two armed dacoits in police uniform entered a showroom followed by five others who together looted gold jewellery worth Rs 8 to 9 crore at gun point and fled from the scene, IG (STF) Sujit Pandey had said.

While one of the culprits was carrying a carbine, others were having smaller weapons, Pandey said, adding that they also took away the CCTV camera installed in the showroom.

The chief minister had suspended SSP, Saharanpur, Bharat Singh Yadav, with immediate effect following his failure to effectively control crime.
