Sales tax officer commits suicide

A 56-year-old senior government official allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence in Pathardi here, police said today.

Avinash Suryabhan Jangale, a deputy sales tax commissioner, ended his life yesterday, they said.

Jangale, who was recently transferred to Nashik was staying alone here while his family is at Nagpur.

The matter came to light after some of the colleagues reached his home after he did not show up in the office.

The reason behind him taking the extreme step is yet to be ascertained, police said.
