Sand, equipment worth Rs 1.19 cr seized in raids

Sand, vehicles and other material worth about Rs 1.19 crore were seized during raids conducted by district administration at six locations against illegal dredging of sand, an official said today.

The raids were conducted on Saturday at Gaimukh, Nagla, Kolshet, Kalwa and Mumbra Reti Bunder areas of Thane on the directions of District Collector Dr Ashwini Joshi to check illegal sand dredging, tehsildar (revenue) Sandeep Mane said.

During the raids, six trucks (worth about Rs 60 lakh), a JCB machine (Rs 25 lakhs), two suction pumps (Rs 6 lakhs) and 409 brass of excavated sand (Rs 28.63 lakhs) worth nearly Rs 1.19 crore were seized, he said.
 

A total of six offences were registered against those involved in illegal dredging of sand, he said, adding that such raids will continue in other locations of the district also.
