Sand mining equipment destroyed in explosion in Cuddalore dist

A Rs 50 lakh worth special mining equipment at a state-run sand quarry in the district was destroyed today by a gang using crude bombs, police said.

However, no one was injured, they said.

A special team has been set up to probe the incident that occurred at the quarry in Madha Kali Manickam village, they added.

The gang gained entry into the quarry at about 3 AM and set off four crude bombs on the equipment.

Meanwhile, the district collector TP Rajesh ordered closure of the sand quarry today.

Investigation is on to ascertain the reason for the sabotage, police said.
