Sanitation worker attempts suicide; SDMC suspends 2 officials

A sanitation worker of South Delhi Municipal Corporation allegedly tried to end his life after claiming he was being harassed by senior staff members following which the civic body today suspended two officials.

"A safai karmachari in our Najafgarh Zone tried to set himself on fire. He alleged that he was being harassed by some civic officials. He suffered burns and was later sent to Safdarjng Hospital where his condition is now stable," said a senior SDMC official.

"Following the allegation by the worker, SDMC has suspended a sanitary inspector and an assistant sanitary inspector in the Department of Environment Management Services, Najafgarh Zone, with immediate effect," the civic body said.
 

"After an inquiry into the case, we will get to know what was the reason behind him taking such a step," the official added.
