In a joint raid to curb timber smuggling in Odisha, forest and police personnel today shutdown a saw mill operating unlawfully near Gop chowk in the township and arrested its proprietor.
Logs and machineries of the unit estimated to be worth Rs 4 lakh were confiscated by the raid squad, a Forest official said.
Kendrapara forest range officer, Ashok Jena said, The unit was unlawfully operating as the forest department had not granted license for its operation. The unit proprietor Arabinda Prasad Das was booked under various provisions of Orissa Saw mill and Aawpit Control Act, 1991 and Orissa forest act, 1972.
