SC declines PIL to declare Bhagavad Gita as national text

The Supreme Court today declined to entertain a plea seeking to declare Bhagavad Gita as national text saying the subject falls outside its domain.

"How can we say. Every citizen has a mindset which is a sacred book. How can we give a declaration," a bench comprising Chief Justice H L Dattu and Justices M Y Eqbal and Arun Mihra said.

The PIL was filed by advocate M K Balakrishnan.
