The principal of a government school in Pokharan was today arrested by sleuths of Anti-Corruption Bureau for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a teacher for continuation of her deputation.

The teacher, Arvind Dadariya, complained that the principal, Venidan Charan, used to take bribe of Rs 5,000 per month from her for continuation of her deputation in the school, an ACB spokesperson said.

Once when she had gone on leave because of her father-in- law's death, Charan effected her transfer and issued relieving order. She then moved to court against the transfer, following which he demanded Rs 44,000 to "adjust" leave and cancel the relieving order, the spokesperson said.

The sleuths organised a trap and caught him red handed while accepting the money, she said.

A case under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been lodged against the principal.
