A science graduate, who carried out robberies along with his accomplices in the city's government and posh colonies, has been arrested in connection with 10 theft cases from south Delhi's Sadiq Nagar area.

Syed Tabish Askari, a native of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested from Sadiq Nagar area where he committed the latest burglary along with two others Abdul Faizan Khan, gang leader, and Abdul Mukeet Khan.

Following Askari's arrest on August 18, police has recovered several valuables including four stolen LED televisions, three laptops and a motorcycle.

"On August 18, our beat staff was conducting patrolling to control burglary/thefts in government flats in the said area. During this period, the staff noticed the accused standing outside a residence in a suspicious manner.

"Since residents concerned were out of Delhi on a pilgrimage tour to Vaishno Devi, Askari was enquired by police leading to his arrest. He is involved in nine other such cases," police said.

Explaining the modus operandi of the gang, police said it would target houses in posh colonies and government flats where security guards were not deployed and occupants were away during day time.

They used to pose as staff of courier company to avoid suspicion of other residents or police. They would carry with them a specialised house-breaking instrument in the packing as consignment to be delivered so that no one could doubt them.

"After commission of crime, they used to store the stolen property in a rented room in Village Rahapur, Noida and later dispose the same to potential buyers," police said.
