The CPI(M) today accused the State Election Commission of trying to evade responsibility to ensure free and fair Kolkata Municipal Corporation polls.
"The statements that the SEC (State Election Commissioner S R Upadhyay) is making shows that he is trying to avoid the responsibility to ensure free and fair polls. He is trying to put the onus on the TMC-led state government which is hell bent to turn this election into a farce," CPI(M) state secretariat member Rabin Deb said.
Upadhyay had recently said that there could be a gap in confidence building measures for peaceful polling due to the unavailability of adequate number of central forces.
Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya had yesterday in a written statement called for united resistance against TMC in order to ensure free and fair elections.
