Security personnel today arrested an active member of People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) from Kotanger jungle of extremist-hit Khunti district, the police said.

A team of District Armed Police and CRPF 94 battalion led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Torpa), Nazir Akhtar and Assistant Commandant Mukesh Kumar rushed to the jungle last night after the Superintendent of Police Ashwini Kumar Sinha got an information that Paras Gope alias Parasnath Gope alias Birbal Gope had taken shelter in the jungle.

Addressing a press conference here, Ashwini Kumar Sinha said the security personnel arrested Paras in the wee hours today following the search operation.

35-year-old Paras was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head and he was an active member of a squad headed by the PLFI Supremo Dinesh Gope.

Paras was wanted in over half a dozen cases.

Paras, during interrogation, told police that he had joined the organisation along with a hardcore extremist Rajkamal Gope in 2007. He had become a member of Dinesh Gope squad following the arrest of Rajkamal.
