Shiv Sena MLA Prakash Abitkar today claimed that his name has appeared in the list of beneficiaries of the Maharashtra government's farm loan waiver scheme even though he had not applied for any benefit.

He demanded an inquiry into this erroneous inclusion, since rules bar any current or former elected representative from getting benefit under the scheme.

"I want to inform the state government that a name similar to mine appeared in the state government's list of beneficiaries. If it is my name, it should be removed," said Abitkar, a first time MLA from Kolhapur district.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had admitted in the assembly yesterday that mistakes did creep in the execution of Rs 34,022 crore farm loan waiver scheme.

Abitkar said he had not applied for any benefit under the scheme, however his name appeared in the list, with Rs 25,000 apparently sanctioned to him.

The ambitious loan waiver scheme has witnessed glitches due to supply of faulty data by banks, duplication of Aadhar numbers and technical issues.

A government resolution of June 28, 2017 bars elected representatives from taking benefit of the scheme. Pointing this out, Abitkar questioned how his name figured in the list of beneficiaries, and sought an inquiry.
