SER initiative to keep stations litter-free

In a bid to keep stations litter-free and sensitise people about the importance of cleanliness, South Eastern Railway has penalised offenders for spitting or dumping garbage on platforms during a two-day drive, an SER spokesman said Sunday.

Passengers caught littering in station areas were penalised Rs 100 to bring to book such offenders and also to pass on the message to others, SER spokesman Sanjay Ghosh said.

"Ticket checking staff of the railway penalised 108 passengers for spitting or travelling with improper ticket at Howrah station complex on Sunday and collected a fine of Rs 14,600," he said.

A similar drive was conducted at Santragachi station on Saturday that led to realisation of fine amount of Rs 13,000, he said.

 

Such drives to dissuade passengers from littering station areas will continue and it will be conducted at other stations of the SER, Ghosh said.
