The serial blasts at the Gandhi Maidan and surrounding areas here two days ago were aimed at creating a stampede at the 'Hunkar Rally' to claim human lives, a senior police official said today.
The design of the perpetrators of the blasts came to light during the interrogation of those arrested, Senior Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj told PTI.
Providentially, the perpetrators did not succeed as not all bombs exploded while those who came to attend the rally did not panic, he said.
The police officer's revelation were corroborated by a number of BJP leaders who have said that the serial blasts were aimed at creating panic and a resultant stampede that could have claimed many lives.
