After being panned as the Oscar host this year, comedian Seth MacFarlane has announced that he will not return for another stint next year.

The 39-year-old comedian announced the news Monday on Twitter.

"Traumatized critics exhale: I'm unable to do the Oscars again," MacFarlane wrote on his Twitter page.

"Tried to make it work schedule-wise, but I need sleep."

MacFarlane may have left some critics fuming with his probing jibes this year but he was praised from his producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.

Zadan and Meron are returning next year and they apparently wanted to bring him back.

MacFarlane is not the most unlucky host in Oscar history as James Franco, Anne Hathaway and David Letterman have been criticised badly in the past.

The comedian is not returning next year but he seemed to have a replacement in mind.

"...I highly recommend the job, as Zadan and Meron are two of the most talented producers in the business. My suggestion for host is Joaquin Phoenix," MacFarlane wrote.
