Seven ultras held in Chhattisgarh

Seven naxals, two of them carrying cash reward on their heads, were arrested from separate places in Bastar division of Chhattisgarh, the police said today.

While two Local Organisation Squad (LOS) cadres of Maoists were held from Dantewada district today, five lower-rung members were arrested from separate places in Bijapur district yesterday.

"A joint squad of the District Force and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had launched a search operation in the core areas of Katekalyan police station area (Dantewda), during which Hando Mandavi and Kosa Mandavi were arrested," a senior police official told PTI.

Hando and Kosa were allegedly involved in torching a passenger bus after asking its occupants to alight near Gatam village in the region last month, he said, adding that the duo were carrying the reward of Rs 1 lakh each on their heads.
 

The officer said the duo were also wanted in various cases, including murder, attacks on police party, killing of a police constable at a weekly market in Katekalyan in 2015.

In two separate incidents in Bijapur district, four ultras were arrested from Mirtur police station area whereas another from Basaguda police station limits, he said.

Those arrested from Bijapur were active as lower rung members.

They have cases pending against them for attempt to murder, arson and under Arms Act, he added.
