Sever ties with BJP for true federalism: Dal Khalsa to SAD

Radical Sikh outfit Dal Khalsa today said that the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal could not achieve its demand of recasting the Constitution on true federal lines, unless it severs the ties with BJP.

Yesterday, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in his Republic day address at Ludhiana has accused the Centre of encroaching upon the rights of states and called for recasting the Constitution to ensure implementation of federalism in the right spirit.

Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh, said that "His (Badal's) party's alliance with the BJP -- the party that favours strong centre and unitary Constitution -- reflects Badal's double standards."

Unless Badal severs his ties with the saffron party and join hands with regional parties who are long votaries of federal structure, the goal for autonomy would remain a distant dream, he said.
