Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid meets SP leaders

Press Trust of India  |  Lucknow

Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, Delhi Maulana Ahmad Bukhari today met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, his father and SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and senior party leader Shivpal Yadav in a bid to put an end to the ongoing family feud.

After meeting Akhilesh, Bukhari met Mulayam and Shivpal, the head of the SP's Uttar Pradesh unit, and expressed his views regarding the "impact" of the ongoing "tussle" between the SP leaders among the workers, party sources said.

Later, Akhilesh, Mulayam and Shivpal sat together with the Shahi Imam.

Sources close to the Shahi Imam claimed that Akhilesh was likely to be declared SP's chief ministerial face for the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election as the leaders had "agreed" to it.

"The meetings were important and they have yielded positive results", Bukhari later told reporters but did not elaborate.
